Basic hard drive installation steps.

 

This is just a list of the basic steps for installing a new IDE hard drive.

Some of the links will not work until I get the rest of the site finished.

 

 

 

1.

 

Determine what you are going to use the new hard drive for.

 

 

2.

 

Choose your hard drive and buy it.

 

 

3.

 

Turn off computer and remove cover.

 

 

4.

 

Set the jumpers according to your configuration.

 

 

5.

 

Mount hard drive in case.

 

 

6.

 

Connect the IDE cable and power cable to new drive.

 

 

7.

 

Double check jumper settings and cable connections.

 

 

8.

 

Close case and power on computer.

 

 

9.

 

Verify hard drive is found in the CMOS.

 

 

10.

 

Reboot computer after exiting the CMOS.

 

 

11.

 

Prepare your hard drive for data. FDISK

 

 

12.

 

Partition hard drive to your needs.

 

 

12.

 

Format the hard drive.

 

 

13.

 

Copy your previous operating system if drive is system drive.
